How Much Social Media Content is Needed For Really Excellent Social Media Marketing?
In 2021, 91.9% of marketers in the United States in companies with more than 100 employees were expected to use social media for marketing purposes. Social media content is a need, not a want if you want to engage in social media.
When businesses think of social media, it’s more than an entertainment outlet. It’s a powerful marketing tool that can connect companies with millions of relevant people, promote products and services, and show the world that brands care about their customers.
However, how much content should brands be producing to excel in social media marketing? And how frequently should they be engaging with their audience?
It depends on the social media platforms used and how well the audience responds to content.
While being active on social media is great, consumers don’t want to be spammed, and brands don’t want to post content that consumers won’t even see on their feeds.
Here are some numbers to keep in mind.
According to HubSpot, organizations with more followers get more interaction per post. For business pages with over 10,000 followers, clicks per post peaked at 31 to 60 posts per month. Companies that were posting more than 60 posts each month didn’t actually see any significant increases in their engagement rate.
Organizations with less than 10,000 saw the most results from their social media marketing when posting only a few times a month.
Generally, brands that post on Facebook about 3 to 5 times a week will attract a steady growth of engagement.
The average lifespan of a Tweet is 15 to 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, Tweets will get pushed to the bottom by new posts. Some brands Tweet multiple times an hour to stay relevant on their followers’ feeds or on the foods of people that aren’t following them.
Brands also retweet relevant content to stay consistently active on Twitter each day. However, not all businesses want to post that often.
Research finds that the average engagement rate starts to decrease after the third Tweet and response per Tweet dips after five Tweets.
Posting 20 times each month can help you reach 60% of your unique audience. Although sometimes more is better, there will eventually be a point where engagement rate drops.
Start with posting 20 pieces of quality content that’s relevant to the audience and scale up if needed. Remember to space out the 20 pieces of content so it’s not all within one week. Posting should be consistent to stay active.
